In the early nineties, NASA embarked on an ambitious goal: to engineer self-sustaining life support systems for long-term missions and extraterrestrial colonies.
By 2014, several of the agency’s lead researchers would leave to start BIOS, also known as Biological Innovation and Optimization Systems, LLC.
