BIOS Lamp Wins 2022 Good Design Award

The BIOS SkyView Table Lamp, created for human wellness, was selected as an honoree for its sustainability, design, and function.

CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb. 2, 2023 –– Biological Innovations and Optimization Systems (BIOS), a NASA spinoff and leader in human wellness and horticultural lighting technologies, today announced that its flagship product, The BIOS SkyViewTM Table Lamp, was named a GOOD DESIGN Award recipient in the Lighting category. GOOD DESIGN is the first, oldest, and longest-running design prize in the world that honors achievements in product, packaging, communication and service design, architecture, interior architecture, user interface, user experience, and professional concept.

The SkyView Table Lamp, the first wellness lamp of its kind, deploys revolutionary lighting technology that was first created by BIOS founder Robert Soler for NASA’s International Space Station to mimic the circadian rhythms of the body and boost productivity, increase alertness and promote a better night’s sleep. Users can customize the lamp’s settings manually via the BIOS lighting mobile app in order to have the lamp correlate to their timezone and personal sleep schedule.

“We are delighted to have BIOS’s innovation recognized by GOOD DESIGN, an international award that underscores our commitment to design excellence, function and product sustainability,” said Robert Soler, BIOS co-founder and vice president of  research. “When we created the SkyView Table Lamp, we wanted it to not only boost physical and mental health but also look beautiful from a design perspective. The GOOD DESIGN Award is a testament to our success on both fronts.”

“To have our product recognized by such a prestigious organization really is a feather in our cap,” said Soler. “I speak for the entire BIOS team when I say we can’t wait to keep evolving new biological lighting solutions that not only provide great health benefits, but also elevate the spaces they’re in.”
