Industry Experts Convene in Preparation for the 2016 Cannabis Sustainability Symposium to Address Environmental Issues and New Technologies for Safe, Efficient Cannabis Production

August 22, 2016 – BIOS (Biological Innovation and Optimization Systems), a manufacturer and recognized innovator of LED lighting solutions for biological and horticultural industries, today announced that BIOS co-founder and VP of Lighting Research Neil Yorio, will speak at the upcoming monthly meeting of the Denver Department of Environmental Health’s Cannabis Sustainability Work Group in Denver on Wednesday, August 31.

Each month, the group meets to discuss different sustainability challenges facing the cannabis industry, including water and waste management, energy efficiency and employee health and wellness. At this meeting, Yorio will discuss the integration of industrial grade LED lighting technology in commercial Cannabis production facilities with an emphasis on the benefits of energy savings, ROI, yield and product quality enhancement, and reduction or elimination of hazardous wastes compared to legacy HID lighting technology.

“There is a lot of misinformation regarding lighting floating around in the cannabis growers industry,” said Yorio. “I will present scientific based details about how the newest LED grow light systems can maximize all phases of plant growth and production while cutting operating and utility costs dramatically.”

Yorio brings extensive knowledge on the topic pulling from his 20+ years spent as a NASA plant physiologist and photobiologist at Kennedy Space Center in Florida as well of his present work as VP of Lighting Research in Agriculture where he uses his expertise in plant lighting requirements to design and offer products that are relevant to the industry of controlled environment crop production.

The August meeting of the Denver Department of Environmental Health’s Cannabis Sustainability Work Group will be held at Stoney’s Bar and Grill in Denver, CO from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is the second in a three-part series that is being presented in preparation for the Cannabis Sustainability Symposium in an effort to promote cannabis sustainability and to bring together government and industry.

The 2016 Cannabis Sustainability Symposium is presented by The Organic Cannabis Association at the Colorado Convention Center on October 26, 2016, which Yorio will be an invite speaker. For more information, visit www.cannabissustainability.org/.
