Circadian Fact Friday – How Circadian Rhythms Really Regulate How And When We Sleep
By: Robert Soler, BIOS VP of Human Biological Technologies and Research
How do circadian rhythms really regulate how or when we sleep? This video details how sleep and alertness work together each day (shout out to UCSD’s Bioclock Studio). One thing that isn’t discussed here is that sleep homeostasis is regulated by sleep timing and duration, where circadian drive is primarily regulated by light timing. Because of modern society’s inappropriate delineation of day and night, these two processes become out of sync with each other and confound sleep. BIOS Lighting is designed to bring critical daytime signals, not found in typical LED lighting, into your work or school to make sure these two processes are aligned.
